In times of stress or depression, it is common for many people to turn to food to brighten up their mood. Believe it or not, there is scientific research which supports a correlation between eating and happiness. However, using food as a way to relieve stress can be extremely detrimental to one’s health and well-being if poor choices are made. Instead of consuming processed foods and “junk food”, try to select items that are rich in vitamins A, B12, D, and E, and folate, iodine, magnesium, calcium, iron, fiber, and omega-3 fatty acids. These all positively impact your brain’s ability to focus and think properly. In addition, they also regulate one’s emotions and provide enough energy to work to meet a deadline, without having an anxiety attack. As tempting as that bag of chips or candy bar may seem, they will worsen your health. By eating these junk foods, not only will you gain weight, but you will also feel worse. Bad health leads to more depression and sadness. Thankfully, there are some recommended foods to consume to boost happiness. However, as with anything else, they must be eaten in moderation. Too much or too little of one of these foods can negatively affect you and your body. Also, not all foods affect everyone in the same way, so these foods may or may not decrease stress or depression. Below is a list of suggested foods which may increase your happiness level:
1. Coconuts – Fresh coconuts have fats which can enhance your mood. Its milk helps to rebuild tissue and improve body functions. The downside is, if you consume too much, you will gain unwanted weight.
2. Honey- Honey is an all natural sugar substitute. It contains kaempferol and quercetin, both which will improve your brain’s health and reduce inflammation. A healthier brain means a happier you!
3. Mussels- Mussels contain high levels of vitamin B12, which helps to protect your brain and keep it sharp as you grow older. This food is especially important, because most people in the U.S. are vitamin B12 deficient. Mussels also have zinc, iodine, and selenium, which play important roles in balancing your mood.
4. Dark Chocolate- Despite tasting good, dark chocolate has also been proven to aid in concentration, mood, and increase blood flow to your brain. Thus, making you feel more energized and happy. The more organic, the better and remember not to eat too much of it.
5. Greek Yogurt- Greek yogurt contains more calcium than milk or regular yogurt. The body needs certain levels of calcium in order to feel good. When your body does not have the correct amount of calcium, you can become nervous, agitated, anxious, depressed, and irritable.
So the next time you have a terrible day or are under lots of stress, consider choosing one of these items to eat instead of that bag of chips or a candy bar. Remember that the foods you eat can affect not only your health, but also your happiness.

The fresh and new restaurant of Umami burger has become one of the most popular restaurants within the city of Los Angeles. I had the pleasure of dining at an Umami burger, as it was recently my birthday. While originally hearing great reviews about the food served at the restaurant, I myself left the restaurant very pleased with everything.
As said within the title of the restaurant, Umami Burger specializes within dishes that pertain to the Hamburger. The menu of the restaurant is filled with different options of burgers such as the original Umami Burger, the Truffle Burger, the Hatch Burger, the Port and Stilton Burger, the Cali Burger, the Green Bird Burger, the Earth Burger, the Manly Burger, and last but not least the Ahi Tuna Burger.
The Burger that I had decided upon during my visit was the Manly burger. The Manly Burger was composed of beer-cheddar cheese, smoked salt onion strings, and bacon lardon (or Bacon sewed within the Hamburger Patty). While this would not be the healthiest option on the menu, the Manly Burger did not lack in flavor and overall goodness. And I did, in fact, feel pretty manly.
Umami burger is the equivalent to a very high-class fast food restaurant. What I mean by this, is that many of the foods served at Umami burger is seen within general American fast food. However the restaurant is not a fast food drive through, but instead a clean normal sit down restaurant. The fresh ingredients used at the restaurant, are the main source of why the food is so savoring.
Only the best cuts of beef and vegetables are added into a customer’s burger. The side dishes available are superb, and it is extremely hard not to stuff yourself before the actual meal comes! The waiters and service were great, or as far as I could tell as this was my first and only time stopping by the restaurant.
While the Umami Burger that I visited was located within Studio City, many more of the restaurants of the same chain can be found near you by visiting the Umami Burger Website, or Umami.com. Also available for purchase are many of the sauces made only at Umami Burger! Overall I would give the restaurant 10/10, 5 stars out of 5 stars, and a whopping two thumbs up.
